Évora is a beacon of heritage in the heart of rural Portugal. Life is played out among narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings that provide welcome shade. Most buildings are decorated with blue or yellow trim, giving this laidback city a coherent feel.
Blue tiles adorn the incredible interior of the Misericórdia Church, and the Church of St John the Evangelist also features this typical Alentejo style. The most outlandish is the Church of St Francis where one chapel is created entirely from human bones and skulls.
The Gothic cathedral has a peaceful cloister and next door is Évora Museum with its collection of medieval, Islamic and Roman artefacts. In the large square in front sit remains of the Roman Temple, and Roman bath ruins lie under the town hall.
The Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval has a turret-like tower, similar to those in the city walls. One of Évora’s most impressive monuments – the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct – passes right through the walls and used to end in large Praça do Giraldo, the city centre’s main square. Some of its stone arches have been cleverly bricked in to create bars and restaurants.
Booking.com’s accommodation in Évora includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels near the train station and guest houses by the university.

Evora is a lovely city full of history and unexpected corners. We used Evora as our "base-camp" to visit many other interesting places in the region, including the megaliths of Cromeleque des Almendres, Estremoz, Vilaviçosa and Elvas.

My husband and I really enjoyed our brief stay in Evora.
My husband and I really enjoyed our brief stay in Evora. The historic center is very walkable overall, so it is easy to see several things in a short time. We were impressed with the Cathedral and the Chapel of Bones, but what we enjoyed the most was the lovely Jardim Público de Évora (public park and gardens). It was the end of April and Springtime has been wet this year, so everything was green and the flowers were blooming. The temperature was perfect for our visit.
We ate dinner at D'Iberica and it was delicious! The waitstaff there were very nice and recommended a delicious wine for our meal. The menu was extensive and everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked wonderful.

Evora is a one-night stay town.
Evora is a one-night stay town. The Chaple of Bones was a great place to spend Halloween. Interesting history. A walk around the Public Park with the Peacocks was a fun experience. We ate at Dona Laura Restaurant which I would highly recommend to others. The Hotel was centrally located and we walked everywhere.
The one negative comment was that Evora was the first city I visited where beggars approached you aggressively holding small children.

Terrific historic town, wonderful preservant of ancient buildings, culture and history mixed with modern life. Disappointed that the palace and private church were closed on Monday—tour book had indicated otherwise. Definitely a town with rich heritage worth visiting.

Historical, relatively quiet, you can walk around feeling relaxed. Most restaurants are a little pricy. Having just experienced an expensive but very low quality restaurant in Sintra, we didn't dare to try expensive restaurants in Evora. Hotels are mostly high quality. It is nice to spend a few days to enjoy this great town.
The hotel is in a great location in Évora, very well placed near the city main square which allows a nice flexibility when touring around town. Fresh and modern decor overall, and our room had lots of light and storage, including air conditioning and TV, extra pillows, towels and a tea kettle.
The staff was very nice and friendly, and the breakfast was simple and enjoyable. We visited during the summer, so it could have had more fruit and beverages options.
The surroundings, quietness, the comfort of the rooms, the incredible spa facilities and the fact that the convento is big and it really feels like you are secluded in a oases of quietness and a incredible peaceful place, we really had a relaxing and nice week.
The hotel is about 3 km of the city so you could drive around and discover the beautiful city of Evora!
Thanks Cristina Oliveira and the team to take such good care of us this week!
Great location and beautiful garden close to all the sights in Evora. Victor is a wonderful host, and couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. Continental breakfast was perfect, especially the orange juice. My husband says Victor's coffee is the best he's had in Portugal. Decor in dining room and lounge was interesting. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a kettle for tea/coffee. No tv in rooms, but we caught up on our reading.
The location and staff at this hotel made it an absolute pleasure to visit. Walking distance to the main square and the Tunnel Bar, and a team full of ideas and suggestions for things to do. I really enjoyed my stay here and in Évora in general. The old and authentic decoration and furniture was a welcome.difference from modern hotels. I look forward to returning in the winter when the log burners will be in full swing.
Very unique property in a small, quiet, original Portuguese town. The owner of the property is very hands-on and takes a lot of pride in his hotel. The town is just a 15 minute drive to Evora and is located in a beautiful area of rolling hills and cork trees. We stayed in quite a few hotels/rentals throughout Portugal and this was my favorite.
Victor was the most welcoming and helpful of hosts. He gave us very useful information regarding what to do on our short visit to Evora. The Hotel/Guest house was a delightful late 17th/18th Century building full of interesting artefacts and original hand painted room decorations. Victor also helped us out of a very tricky situation.
The hotel was very welcoming and a great place to stay in Evora. Centrally located, with hospitable staff and a fantastic breakfast. The morning meal had both buffet and many made to order options, served wonderfully. The elegant pool was right outside our bedroom. Wonderful boutique hotel There was free parking in a secure place.
Great location if you’re doing a road trip through Portugal. hotel has a modern feel, clean comfortable rooms and a great rooftop bar. Dinner in the restaurant was first class and excellent value. Excellent breakfast. The team are well trained and provide top rate service. close to the old town cultural and historic sites.
This hotel is really good. Big room, clean and a very comfortable bed. The lounge pool area is very pleasant with sun beds and a bar. The breakfast was good, with enough variety and tasty options. Located just at the entrance of Evora's wall is the perfect place to reach by car. Parking on the street is easy and free.
Location ideal for Skydive Portugal.
The room was a basic twin room which was clean and tidy with a good ensuite.
The breakfast was OK ... what you'd expect for a hotel like this. The selection was a bit limited though ... especially for the hot items.
Nice large foyer / bar seating area.
This is a modern building but is packed with style and character. The hotel is ideally placed for sightseeing in the old town of Evora. We were very happy with the service we received and would recommend. There's also the added bonus of a peacock strutting his stuff in the garden!
The owners were very helpful in solving all individual concerns - in fact all of them were addressed and solved. The hostel is well kept, offers breakfast, centrally located in Evora, and is a great value for money. I chose to stay here twice during my trip around Portugal
Omg. Where to begin. The most elegant and well appointed small boutique hotel. If I had known how beautiful I would had booked a longer stay. The breakfast buffet was exceptional. The sauna divine. Seriously I would have booked four days in Evora and stayed here!
The location of this new hotel is very good. It is inside the city walls and a short walk from all the sites in Evora. The staff was really nice and helpful. The Deluxe room was quite large. The breakfast is made to order and was quite good.
Its a pretty basic, hostel type hotel, in the old quarter of Evora. The room was clean and over-looked a small pleasant plaza with a few bars/restaurants. We only stopped one night, so it met our needs without costing too much.
Location is absolutely perfect. Towels were the best ones of our entire portugal stay. Seens silly, but after a few nights with old worn towels wt other hotels...these were luxurious . Would for sure stay again
You can see Évora in a couple of days, so this hotel is a simple yet very comfortable and clean base to discover the city. It is very well located and the staff are very helpfull and attentive. Nice breakfast too.
in the center of Evora where you want to be. Extremely friendly manager and owner. Room and hotel is historical significant and fantastic. Plenty of space and luxurious. Highly recommended.
